Speaker wire is made from finely stranded tinned copper conductors that carry translucent PVC insulation. To make identifying the polarity easy, we added a positive symbol (+) to one of the conductor's insulation. This insulation is designed to be flexible which makes installation easy.

It's always a good idea to always add a few extra feet to leave room for error. This also keeps the run from becoming too tight.
